Jordan Brown Described as Resentful, Having No Remorse

Updated: 3/14/2010 2:03 pm
Friday was the last day for a hearing to decide if 12-year-old Jordan Brown will be tried as an adult or juvenile in the shooting death last year of his father's fiance, who was eight months pregnant.

The main witness to take the stand at the hearing was psychiatrist Dr. John O'Brien. O'brien said Brown showed no signs of mental illness during a psychiatric evaluation last month.

The psychiatrist said during the evaluation, Brown consistently avoided the factual evidence against him, and he doesn't believe he will ever admit to the murders. Defense attorneys said the the psychiatrist already believes Jordan is guilty.

O'Brien said the answers Brown gave during the evaluation showed that he harbored resentment and is very aware and sensitive to things he believes are unfair to him.

And many believe Brown harbored resentment toward Houk. The psychiatrist said Brown has not accepted responsibility for the murders and that he has a very limited likelihood of rehabilitation.

"It's the burden of the defense right now to show he is amenable to treatment on the basis of this record. They simply haven't established that," said Prosecutor Anthony Krastek.

If charged as an adult, Brown could face life in prison, but if the judge decides to charge him as a juvenile, he could be in jail until he's 21 years old.

The judge is scheduled to make a decision on whether or not to charge Brown as an adult or a juvenile on April 1.
