Twenty-one teams of high school students got a chance to experience sitting in the hot seat of a company CEO Friday at the Junior Achievement Business Challenge held at Youngstown State University.

Teams were made up of two to three members along with a local business mentor. Using an online simulator, the groups ran a business and managed areas like marketing, financing, filling orders and developing a business model.

Organizers said they hope to increase the students' understanding of operating a business in a competitive high-tech environment.

"The students will benefit because there's a lot of complex decisions that go into running a business," said the challenge's  Donna Slaven. "A lot of times what we want to show students is if you have an idea you can take it and make it a success with a good business plan."

Team members competed for scholarships and savings bonds provided by Home Savings Charitable Foundation. Members of the winning team each get a $500 scholarship.
