You could smell the fish as you drove up Oakwood Ave. on Youngstown's West Side Friday night.
It's the telltale aroma of another Fish Fry at St. Brendan's Church.
This time they weren't raising money for the church, they were raising money for Haiti. All the proceeds will help with the country's earthquake recovery efforts.
"We figured it was a good gesture," said Michael Infante of St. Brendan's. "We've been blessed with good fish dinners, making some good money for our community, so we thought we would donate this one to Haiti."
Several celebrities assisted with serving, helping to raise about $3,000.
Last year during the whole Lenten season, St. Brendan's fish fries raised about $6,100 for the church. So far this year, they're at nearly $4,900. With one more week to go, organizers think they'll beat last year's total.
